Large Maronite community welcome the JCI.

Today the Cross & Icon returned to the Parramatta Diocese for a few days.
It was an early start at St Patrick’s Cathedral where Bishop Manning joined about 100 youth for breakfast. The breakfast was a great opportunity for the youth of the diocese to reconnect and reflect on the incredible blessing of WYD, and the Trojan Youth Team reflected this well with a very engaging drama. I could just feel this sense of expectation in the air this morning. WYD is on our doorstep...exciting!!

The community then gathered in the Cathedral for Palm Sunday Mass celebrated by Bishop Manning. At the conclusion we processed to the park across the road where the Maronite Community were eagerly waiting to welcome the Cross & Icon. They were then handed over in a short ceremony with some beautiful singing by both communities.

The Maronite community then spent the afternoon with the Cross & Icon, making the most of their short stay. The day concluded with a touching evening Youth Mass with about 2500 people – a big proportion of them youth! I was blown away by the Mass tonight - the music, feeling of community, and involvement of youth made for a powerful liturgy!
Dan.
