Dubbo Delivers a great day for the Cross and Icon!

What a busy time the Cross and Icon have had in Dubbo! We started this morning with a combined schools gathering at St John’s College. Here the 2000 students took part in a liturgy which included the WYD theme song sang by the choir.

The next event was the Message Stick Gathering which included some great dancing by local Aboriginal children. Then the Cross was processed in a convoy around the Western Plains Zoo. A Civil Reception was held before the young people processed the Cross to Apex Oval for a community gathering. Here the Cross, Icon and Message Stick were joined by hundreds of youth for a time of prayer, reflection, praise and fun. One of the highlights was the chance to surf the Cross! At 10pm the Cross followed a path lead by glow sticks to St Brigid’s for an hour of prayer and a midnight Mass.

Today I was particularly struck by the young people who joined us for events despite having the opportunity to have a day off school. It was also great to see so many teachers and youth leaders encouraging all the young people in Dubbo to come to WYD.
