Community Spirit alive at Coonabarabran & Gilgandra!

We had a colourful start this morning with local primary & high school students meeting the Cross & Icon in Coonabarabran and then processing them through the main street, led by huge coloured ribbons. Once the procession reached St Laurence’s Church, local parishioners joined with students in an engaging liturgy with readings, prayer, dance and testimony.

Like many other schools we have encountered so far, it was touching to see the students so keen to have their own special moment with the Cross & Icon during veneration.

We then hit the road for Gilgandra – a lovely little town about one hour from “Coona”. Here began a Stations of the Cross in the form of a procession which involved various Churches around town, and finished up back at St Joseph’s Church.

The day was topped off beautifully with an outdoor Mass, followed by Benediction and Adoration back in the Church.
Sitting on the grass tonight during Mass was special! Local youth provided great music and the community spirit was alive! (Fr Chris was also fairly excited about celebrating Mass from the top of a trailer!)
