Antioch Youth Movement Hosting of the Cross and Icon 11-12 January 2008

  • The WYD Cross & Icon were entrusted to the Antioch Youth Movement from 10.00am Jan 11th to 9.00am Jan 12th.
  • Antioch youth from 14 parish Antioch communities in NSW participated.
  • The main events were hosted in the Parish of St Mary & St Joseph, Maroubra Bay which was the site of the first Australian Antioch weekend 1981. The Parish enthusiastically supported the event and participated in many of the liturgies.
  • The event continued for the full 23 hours with an all night vigil. It concluded with a 2.6km dawn procession and final Mass at the Bali Victims’ Memorial at Coogee.
  • During the event, there was a three-hour combined meeting of Antioch communities. The rest of the time was taken up with a series of liturgies which were open to all who wished to attend. Some of these were organised by a central State team and the remaining sessions were divided into one hour time periods in which individual Antioch communities took responsibility for animating the veneration of the Cross and Icon.
